Surbiton Win 2013/14 Surrey Cup

 

Surbiton Men’s 2nd XI won the 43rd Surrey County Hockey Association Club Competition (The Surrey Cup) on Sunday afternoon (April 27). The Long Ditton-based winners - who finished second in the Higgins Group London League Premier Division (with 44 points from 22 games) - beat London Edwardians 1st XI - who finished fifth in the South Hockey League Premier–Division 2 (with 41 points from 22 games) - in the Final (re-arranged from Saturday April 12) at Purley Walcountians HC at their Clockhouse Ground in Woodmansterne this Sunday by 8-2 after leading 2-0 at the interval. Surbiton goalscorers were Rob Schilling with five and James Hamlyn with three; while first Charlie Lester and then Oliver Knight pulled it back to 1-5 and then 2-7 for the OEs. Many thanks go to Chris Burton for organising the tournament; Chris Jenkins for acting as Match Official; and the Purley Walcountians’ club for being such excellent hosts. Also to umpires In Hawkes and Nick Paget and all other SHUA-appointed umpires for all this season’s other cup ties.
