Charlie Hutton Memorial

 Charlie Hutton Memorial

The month of April generally wraps up the season for most competitive hockey. Its the time for sorting out promotions, relegations, league titles, cup finals and club dinners

At Oxted Hockey Club its also a time for friends and team mates to remember one of the very brightest hockey talents.

Charlie Hutton was just 14 when he tragically died in a boating accident last summer.

An outstanding young player, Charlie had already progressed through the single system to the England set up and would surely have been playing for the England under 16s this season.

He loved the game and always played with a smile on his face and was the most charming and polite boy you could ever have met.

On Friday 12th April Charlie’s Oxted under 16 team mates will take on Bromley and Beckenham, needing a win to secure the Mercian Home Counties Premier League title, and then on 27th April the boys will take part in the re-scheduled national indoor finals in Wolverhampton. Also on 24/25th April Charlie's school, Whitgift, will be playing in the national schools finals.
Sunday 21st April will be another opportunity to remember Charlie as his brothers, Tom and Sam Hutton, and Oxted coach Graham Foggin run the London Marathon to raise money for the RNLI , the clubs chosen charity this season in memory of Charlie.
If you would like to donate to support the amazing work of the RNLI the links to the fund raising pages of Tom &Sam and Graham are below.
Alternatively you might just want to watch the short video clip as a reminder of Charlie's special talents on the hockey pitch.
